Electrolysis

Facts you need to know..

There has always been a purpose for hair. During the Stone Age, this was a survival mechanism when hair provided warmth. Today, hair is a beauty trend and women only want it on their heads, eyebrows, and lashes!  Before the birth of Electrolysis in 1875; you could not escape excessive hair growth due to genetics or heredity.  Fortunately, a solution is available but there are so many variables from person to person that makes it impossible to know exactly how many sessions a client needs. Under normal conditions, it will take about 18 months for permanent hair removal.  It can take up to 24 months for someone suffering from hormonal conditions covering a highly dense area.  There are 3 phases of treatment: Cleaning, Control, and Maintenance. Each Phase requires a certain amount of office visits, and it depends on how much hair you wish to remove, availability, tolerance for pain, and financial budget.  Electrolysis is a progressive approach to permanent hair removal, and you will notice hair reduction after every session. It takes time, consistency, and patience but you will get the permanent results you seek.  Plan for longer sessions upfront and as the months go on; treatment frequency and session lengths will shorten as you notice less hair growing in. That’s because we have permanently destroyed follicles!
The treatments are charged by time not per area. Each hair is removed one hair at a time, and multiple hair cycles are treated until all the hair is gone. A fine wire filament, known as a probe, is inserted into your existing hair canal and energy from the epilator is released. Each hair is treated in this manner. All follicles must have actively growing hair to be destroyed.  There are 3 stages of hair growth. A-C-T; Anagen, Catagen, Telogen. During the Anagen stage, the hair follicle is in the growth stage because it is attached to the derma papilla and receiving nutrients from the capillaries.
The goal is to destroy the dermal papilla and stem cells; the two vital components required to make hair.  Laser hair removal only damages the hair follicle, and with time; your hair follicle will repair itself and produce more hair.  Electrolysis is most effective in the Anagen Stage because the hair is still attached to dermal papilla. A small amount of current is released and the moisture in the follicle is heated up. Essentially, the capillaries are cauterized and the components that sustain the hair are cooked beyond repair. This modality is called “Thermolysis”, and it works like your microwave heating up a cup of water.  Catagen and Telogen are not the ideal stages for hair removal because the hair begins to separate and finally detaches from the dermal papilla.  Each hair follicle has its own hair cycle; meaning they grow in different stages. If every follicle were in the same hair stage than we would be bald.
So, you will have regrowth in 4-5 weeks after an Electrolysis session! After several sessions, you will see the hair come in thinner and notice that the regrowth is less coarse because the hair follicle has been weakened. This can happen for some very quickly and vary from person to person as everyone is completely different in their biological make-up, in addition to other factors like frequency and length of sessions. Plucking between sessions will DRASTICALLY increase time frame for completion.  You cannot pluck once we get started! Plucking hairs resets the hair cycle. Just shave please.
For a consultation or to start, Electrologists will need hair to be at least 1 mm in length so it can be removed with tweezers. Click to learn more information about Electrolysis, refer to the "contact us" page.
